YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT
Youth in Government is an extracurricular, hands-on civic education program for students in grades 7–12 that teaches civic engagement in a nonpartisan way. The program involves students in the executive, judicial, and legislative branches of government, as well as in media roles that provide experience in sharing political news through various forms of multimedia. Local delegations begin meeting in the fall.
- Program runs November-March
- Students research topics and prepare presentations for the Model Government Conference at the State Capital.
- Trip to Madison for Model Government Conference March 6-8

What is Youth in Government?
Youth in Government (YIG) is a program where students simulate running a state government. They take on roles like legislators, judges, and media professionals for a comprehensive civic experience.
Who Can Participate?
Students in grades 7-12 can participate in YIG. They join delegations through their schools or YMCA to prepare for roles in the program.
What Happens at the Conference?
During the YIG conference, students engage in debates, elections, and discussions. They experience real government functions, stay in a hotel, and enjoy various social activities.
