YOUR PARTNERS IN HEALING
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a FREE 12-week small group program designed for adult cancer survivors who have become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from their treatment. The goal is to help patients build muscle mass and strength, increase flexibility and endurance, and improve functional ability. Additional goals include reducing the severity of therapy side effects, preventing unwanted weight changes and improving energy levels and self-esteem. A final goal of the program is to assist participants in developing their own physical fitness program so they can continue to practice a healthy lifestyle as a way of life. You will get individualized attention and an approach to recovery that targets the areas you need to rebuild.
Just as important, LIVESTRONG encourages a spirit of community, a comfortable place for you to build companionship with others affected by cancer and share stories and inspiration. Session will run with a minimum of 8 participants, maximum 12 participants.
Testimonial- Edna Zrucky
Edna Zrucky used to run 3 miles a day. She enjoyed dance, land and water group exercise classes at the Y. Then, last fall she was diagnosed with melanoma. She was restricted from doing anything vigorous, including her favorite Aqua Zumba class. Her treatment required multiple surgeries and skin grafts. When Edna learned about LIVESTRONG, she decided the regular twice weekly classes would be just what she needed to get off the couch and to regain her strength.
"I appreciate so much the people helping people like me because it's such a wonderful opportunity," said Edna.
Edna is weight training and working on building muscle tone. She enjoyed the chance to connect with other adults in the small group environment. She completed the program in late November. Best of all she is feeling energized, hopeful and committed to her wellness.
Dates for Winter Session: Jan. 23 - April 12, 2018
Class will meet Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. at Aspirus Branch
