Wellness Activities

The YMCA wants to impact the lives of those affected by diabetes. We know that healthy eating and physical activity have been proven to reduce
the risks associated with type 2 diabetes. We are looking for people committed to better health to enroll in our Diabetes Management Program at the Woodson YMCA. The new program has already helped local people gain some control over the disease and live better. We provide a 12-week program, meeting twice a week with an emphasis on exercise and nutrition. Participants will learn strategies for eating healthier foods, increasing physical activity and making other changes that will improve overall health and well-being. Participants will utilize strength equipment and take group exercise classes. The program includes a food shopping nutrition education field trip. Class is limited to first 12 participants.
Cost: Free

The goal is to help patients build muscle mass and strength, increase flexibility and endurance, and improve functional ability. Additional goals include reducing the severity of therapy side effects, preventing unwanted weight changes and improving energy levels and self-esteem. A final goal of the program is to assist participants in developing their own physical fitness program so they can continue to practice a healthy lifestyle as a way of life.
