Active Older Adults

Here at the Woodson YMCA, we know that it’s so important that adults over age 55 continue to engage in fulfilling activities so they can enhance connections, decrease a sense of isolation, and improve overall well-being. Our exercise classes and organized physical activities, which are geared toward Active Older Adults,  promote fitness and good health while fostering friendships and camaraderie.

Active Older Adults Director Becky Zelent leads outdoor adventures, day and overnight trips, serves as program coordinator for Managing Your Diabetes, Diabetes Prevention Program, Silver Sneakers, and Silver & Fit. Becky also teaches BOOM, Gentle Stretch, Step and Zumba Gold classes.

We know that connections with others give us many positive health benefits. Please try one of our upcoming programs and experiences designed for our active older adult members! View Becky’s August AOA  event/class calendar here!

At the Y, we believe that spirit, mind and body are all connected. Active Older Adults can get inspired and connect through organized activities such as:
Day trips to:
• Museums
• Art exhibits
• State parks and outdoor adventures
• Sporting events
• Theater and dinner outings

We host monthly Lunchtime Learning sessions at our Wausau Branch. Bring a lunch or just come for coffee and explore topics such as:
• Aging Well
• Pain Management
• Holiday Tricks and Tips
• Travel Safety

Check the AOA calendar, bulletin board or Facebook page for days and times of Outdoor Adventures. No sign-up needed. Just bring a friend and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities with other active adults.
