We offer lifeguard courses, CPR and lifeguard reviews and challenges. Read the descriptions below..

LIFEGUARD TRAINING

IMG_6420American Red Cross Certification Purpose: To teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and to prevent drownings and injuries.  Prerequisites: Must be 15 years of age; ability to swim 300 yards (mixture of front crawl and breaststroke with rhythmic breathing); and swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 9 ft., retrieve a 10-lb. object, return to surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Course will include Blood Borne Pathogens Training. No refunds.  All materials included. Certification issued upon successful completion of the course. LIFEGUARD INSTRUCTOR COURSE

American Red Cross Certification Purpose: Train instructor candidates to teach basic-level Lifeguarding, Waterfront Lifeguarding, and Shallow Water Attendant (all including first aid), Lifeguard Management, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Blood borne Pathogens Training and Basic Water Rescue courses. Candidates will also be familiar with GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow and Water Safety Presentations. This course prepares candidates to use course and presentation materials, conduct training sessions and evaluate the progress of candidates in a professional-level course.  No refunds. All materials included.  Certifications issued upon successful completion of course. Prerequisites:  Must be 17 years of age; possess certificate in Fundamentals of Instructor Training (also included in course).

Complete all skills in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and a pre-course written exam.  Prerequisites must be successfully completed to officially enroll in the course.  *Participants will receive 6 instructor certifications and 6 basic level certifications. Course graduates are encouraged to apply for YMCA employment.* Fee is $275 for members and $300 for non-members.

WATER SAFETY (SWIM) INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course Prerequisites: Minimum age of 16 years, must possess a Fundamentals of Instructor Training certificate (offered in the course), proficiently swim 25 yards of the following strokes: front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, and butterfly.  Prerequisites must be successfully completed in order to enroll in the course. There are no refunds.  Purpose: To train instructor candidates to teach water safety, including the Basic Water Rescue Course, six levels of the Learn to Swim Program, and the Parent and Child Aquatic Program. Certifications are included in successful completion of the course. The fee is $195 for members or $225 for non-members.

The course includes textbook and breathing barrier.  Certifications issued upon successful completion of course.  *Challenges are available. Adult CPR/AED Course American Red Cross Purpose: Teach participants the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for breathing emergencies, perform CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. The course includes textbook and breathing barrier.  Certifications issued upon successful completion of course. *Challenges are available. Contact Associate Aquatics Director T’Neal Kulesa at 715-841-1859 for more information.

CPR/AED For The Professional Rescuer and Health Care Provider Course American Red Cross Purpose: Teach participants the role of the professional rescuer in the EMS system, understand how the emergency action principles are used when providing emergency care for a person, recognition and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, and the use of an automated external defibrillator for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. The course includes textbook and breathing barrier. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Health Care Provider Review Course American Red Cross Purpose: to review the material with those who have a duty to act (professional rescuers), the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies for adult, child and infant. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim of cardiac arrest. Please bring your pocket mask and textbook.  Prerequisites: Participants must bring their own resuscitation mask and textbook, verification of completion of an American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer course or equivalent within the last 2 years.  Adult and Pediatric First Aid/ CPR/AED Course

The purpose of this course is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. The courses in this program teach skills that participants need to know to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. (No classes currently scheduled.)

KAYAKING 

Kayaking is a great activity that children and/or the whole family can enjoy year round!  Cold months offer a great time to develop and hone your skills in a warm, safe pool.  This course welcomes new and experienced boaters.  Participants will have a fun time being instructed on all areas of flat water kayaking, with introductions to moving water and white water kayaking.  The course will concentrate on safety, rolling, maneuvers and techniques.

Participants must be 12 years of age, comfortable with their face in the water and able to swim.  Boats, spray skirts and paddles are provided.  You may bring your own boat with instructor approval. The fee is $75 for members or $90 for non-members.

Kids Kayaking is just $5 for members or $10 for non-members. Course dates TBA.

PADI SCUBA CLASSES

Scuba diving turns any trip into an adventure! It’s safe, easy and fun for each member of the family over the age of 12. Get dive ready for vacation or just learn a new skill. Call Klein Scuba for more details at 715-675-6722. Fee is $275 for members or $300 for non-members. Course dates TBA.
