Swim Lessons

PARENT/CHILD SWIM LESSONS

Swim diapers are required for this class. These classes are for children 6 months to 4 years of age. All classes are 30 minutes in length.

Shrimp (Ages 6 months to 2 years) A special water enrichment program designed to help the parent work with the child in learning to enjoy water. One adult in the water per child.

Perch (Ages 2 to 4 years) Children begin to move more independently of their parents and gain confidence in the water, while learning more skills. One adult in the water per child.

PRESCHOOL SWIM LESSONS

(Ages 3-5) Students must be potty trained. They are divided into four levels with each level building upon the previous one. All classes are 30 minutes in length. Every level includes skills in five areas: personal safety, stroke development, character development skills, personal growth and fitness, and water safety. Children may be moved to the next level when all critical skills in the preceding level have been completed. Please remember that children progress through these levels at different rates.

Pike (Beginner) This is the first group of swim lessons without a parent. The focus is on water adjustment, safety, breath control, floating and gliding for front and back with assistance, and basic swimming skills that strokes will be built on.

Eel (Advanced Beginner) Skills include floating on front and back without assistance, introduction to rotary breathing, submerging face comfortably, and safety skills.

Ray (Intermediate) Skills include front and back crawl with and without assistance, rotary breathing, deep water skill introduction, and safety skills.

Starfish (Advanced) Skills include front and back crawl without assistance, elementary backstroke, rotary breathing, deep water skills, treading water, endurance and safety skills.

YOUTH SWIM LESSONS

(Ages 6-13) The youth classes are divided into six levels with each level building upon the previous one. All classes are 45 minutes in length. Every level includes skills in five areas: personal safety, stroke development, character development skills, personal growth and fitness, and water safety. Children may be moved to the next level when all critical skills in the preceding level have been completed. Many skills in these levels, especially those in stroke development, are dependent on physical development, strength and coordination.

Please remember that children progress through these levels at different rates.

Bluegill (Introduction Level) This is for those children with little or no previous swim experience. Skills include basic water adjustment, floating, breath control, stroke mechanics for front and back crawl, and water safety.

Polliwog (Beginner) Skills include floating, breath control, front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, and water safety.

Guppy (Advanced Beginner) Skills include front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, rotary breathing, treading water, introduction to deep water skills, endurance and water safety.

Minnow (Intermediate) Skills include technique improvement for front crawl with rotary breathing, back crawl and elementary backstroke, breaststroke basics, treading water, deep water skills, endurance, and water safety.

Fish (Advanced Intermediate) Skills include front crawl with rotary breathing, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, dolphin kick, side stroke, treading water, deep water skills, endurance, and water safety.

Flying Fish (Advanced) Skills include refining stroke technique of front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, & elementary backstroke. Swimmers are introduced to butterfly coordination and turns.  Additional skills for endurance, treading water, deep water skills, and water safety.

Shark (Advanced) Skills include endurance training, stroke proficiency in front and back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and butterfly. Additional skills for starts and turns, basic lifesaving, and water safety.

ADULT/TEEN SWIM LESSONS

(13 years and older) For beginner and intermediate swimmers. No previous experience needed. Lessons are designed to help you meet your swimming goals. 40 minute class.

 PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS

Private swim lessons are offered for all levels and ages. Participants work on basic swimming skills appropriate for their ability and in accordance with their individual goals. Water safety is stressed to all participants. Lessons are 30 minutes in length.  Session Dates: On-going. Lessons are arranged to fit your schedule based on pool availability.

Semi-Private Swim Lessons are for 2 individuals in the same 30 minutes.  Session Dates: On-going. Lessons are arranged to fit your schedule based on pool availability.

*FREE SWIM EVALUATIONS

(Must be age 3 or over) Have a swim instructor evaluate your child’s ability and recommend the appropriate level.  Evaluations take approximately 15 minutes. Contact Aquatics/Training Director Lori Kleist at (715) 841-1859 to schedule the evaluation.
